International English Language Testing System

IELTS is an English proficiency exam taken by non-English speaking candidates applying for further studies, training or work in countries where English is used as the language of communication. It is designed to assess the language proficiency in all four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

IELTS, jointly managed by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, the British Council, and IDP Education Australia is regarded as an entrance requirement by most universities in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.

The Canadian Cooperation Office through its English Language Centre administered the IELTS exam for a period of nine years since August 1998 until October 2007 after an understanding with the British Council, Kolkata and the Royal Civil Service Commission. The IELTS examination services is now taken over by Kelki Higher Secondary School, Thimphu. Henceforth candidates wishing to take up the IELTS Test should contact the vice principal, Kelki Higher Secondary School in the address below.
