  • CCO supports subscription of Bhutan Observer to Schools in Bhutan.
The Canadian Cooperation Office (CCO) has
supported all the government schools by
subscribing Bhutan Observer for a period of six months. It is providing a copy each of English and Dzongkha to 466 schools throughout the kingdom for six months period, whereby Bhutan Observer bears the cost of transportation charges to distribution points nearest to the schools.

Usually most of the schools cannot afford to subscribe different newspapers and magazines due to significant amount of money needed to pay the subscription charges. This support is a special gift from CCO to children in schools located in remote part of the country who have limited access to information and reading materials. This will help students to improve their reading habits as well be better informed about the current events and latest developments taking place in the country outside of their classroom learning. Subscriptions of the paper to the schools have started from 14 of July 2006 and will continue till 8 December 2006.

Bhutan Observer is one of the recently established private newspapers in the country. It has two editions, English and Dzongkha to ensure better coverage. With its rural orientation as a strategy to reach the rural mass it provides an in depth coverage on rural settings, news, views and latest happenings.
