CANADA FUND PROJECTS 2002/03

A) 38-10-BH 83: Enhancement of Teaching/Learning in New Community Schools of Trashigang.

          Project Background:

The project will provide typewriters, duplicators and library books which are most essential to the four newly established community schools (viz. Jomritsang CS, Tongling CS, Tokshimang CS and Yobinang CS) in the district.

Project Status: (Closed) Four sets each of typewriters and duplicating machines have been delivered to the identified schools (viz. Jomritsang, Tongling CS, Tokshimang CS and Yobinang CS) in the district. A set of library books were also delivered to these schools through the project.

B) 38-10-BH 84: Enhancement of Teaching/Learning Environment in Remote Community Schools in Wangdi Phodrang.

           Project Background:

This project will provide assistance to five of the remotest schools in the district. These community schools are Sephu, Uma, Dangchhu, Jala and Adang. Each school will receive 3 to 6 greenboards, depending on the size of the enrolment, and a set of library books.

Project Status: (On Going) The project has provided 25 greenboards among the five community schools. Each school also received a set of library books.

C) 38-10-BH 85: Supply of Duplicating Machines and Library books to remote Community Schools in Trongsa.

            Project Background:

Six of the remotest schools in the district will receive library books and reference materials, and duplicating machine under this project. The identified six schools are Korphu Primary School, Jangbi CS, Simphu CS, Bemji CS, Nimshong CS and Nabji CS.

Project Status: (Closed) The six community schools have received a duplicating machine each from the advanced funds. the schools also received library books and reference materials through the project. Since the project was slightly over-budget, the money was used from the surplus funds.

D) 38-10-BH 86: Pilot Project to Enhance the Quality of Life for Teachers Living in Remote Conditions.

           Project Background:

This project will provide some basic facilities for the students and teachers and the District Education officer (DEO) in four of the most isolated and difficult locations in the country. The beneficiaries of this project will be Lunana CS, Laya CS, Lingshi CS and the DEO of Gasa. The project will supply each school with one TV set with dish antenna, one solar set, one solar water heater, one radio/tape-recorder and two tents. In addition to this the teachers and the DEO of Gasa will be provided with a travelling kit (sleeping bags, mats, rucksacks, jackets, trousers, shoes) and tents.

Project Status
: (Closed) The advanced funds have provided full extension gear/traveling kit to the students and teachers and the District Education Officer (DEO). One TV set each has been supplied to two schools. However, other items like dish antenna, solar water heater and lighting were difficult to transport and estimated below the actual cost. Therefore, upon the request  of the Gasa DEO, the CCO agreed to use the remaining funds for the supply of TV, VCR decks, portable kerosene generators and seven full extension kits in lieu of the unfeasible items.

E) 38-10-BH 87: Supply of Equipment for Remote Schools under Dagana Dzongkhag and Training for Repair of Typewriters and Duplicators.

           Project Background:

This project will supply typewriters and duplicators to the following community schools: Dogag , Phekoma , Phensumgang , Lhaling , Lungtengang , Gesarling and Tashithang. It will also fund a training workshop for the repair and maintenance of the equipment supplied for about 30 staff members.

Project Status: (Closed) The project supplied typewriters and duplicators to the following community schools: Dogag,Phekoma,Phensumgang,Lhaling,lungtengang,Gesarling and Tashithang. The schools have been unable to organise the training for repair workshop and instead requested for 58 greenboards,which were duly supplied to them.

F) 38-10-BH 88: Enhancement of Teaching/Learning Environment in the schools in Samtse.

           Project Background:

The project will supply one set of typewriter and duplicator to each of the following schools in the district: Sengdyen CS, Mechetar CS, Dumtey CS, Chargarey CS, Peljorling CS, Nainital CS and Chengmari CS.

Project Status: (Closed) The full project budget had been released to the DADM. One set of a typewriter and a duplicator to each of the following schools in the district: Sengdyen CS, Mechetar CS, Dumtey CS, Chargarey CS, Peljorling CS, Nainital CS and Chengmari CS have been supplied.

G) 38-10-BH 89: Enhancement of Teaching/Learning Environment in Haa.

           Project Background:

Under this project 49 greenboards will be distributed among three primary schools (Katsho, Tshaphel and Damtahng) in the district. Four other schools, viz. Jyenkhana PS, Jyensa PS, Sombekha PS and Mochu CS will also be provided with library and reference books.

Project Status: (On Going) The project has supplied 49 greenboards among the three primary schools (Katsho,Tshaphel, and Damthang) in the district. The remaining funds have provided four other schools, viz. Jyenkhana PS, Jyensa PS, Sombekha PS, and Mochu CS with library and reference books.

H) 38-10-BH 90: Supply of Equipment to Community Schools under Punakha Dzongkhag.

           Project Background:

This project will provide five community schools in the district with greenboards, Dzongkha and English typewriters and duplicating machines. The recipient schools are Mendagang CS, Walathang CS, Goenshare CS, Laptsakha CS and Nobgang CS.

Project Status: (Closed) The project provided the community schools in the district with greenboards, Dzongkha and English typewriters and duplicating machines. 

J) 38-10-BH 91: Enhancement of Education Delivery System in Lhuentse Dzongkhag.

Project Background:

Through this project schools in Lhuentse, one of the remote districts, will receive library and reference books, typewriters and greenboards. The project will also provide a fax machine each to the DEO and Tangmachu High School to improve communication links with other districts and the Education Department with regards to planning, support and monitoring education activities in Lhuentse.

Project Status: (On Going): End of project expected by December 2005
