Canada Fund Projects 2003-2004

A) BH 92:-Strengthening of the newly established VC’s office of the Royal University of Bhutan.

The main purpose of the project is to strengthen the office of the Vice Chancellor in order to facilitate the preparation of the first strategic plan of the Royal University of Bhutan. The project will provide vehicle which will enhance the mobility of the staff for better interaction with the member institutes. The University will also be provided with two laptops for better facilitation of data collection and presentation of materials.

Project Status: (Closed) The project provided  the University with a Toyota (4 WD Prado) and two laptops computers with full multimedia features. Excess money went to the surplus fund.

End of Project Report:
Submitted in February 2005.

B) BH 93:- Enhancement of Education Delivery System in Rural Schools in Thimphu.

The project will supply five community schools in the Dzongkhag with a total of ten typewriters (five English, five Dzongkha) twenty-five green boards, five duplicators and library books. The five community schools that would benefit from the project are Kuzhuchen, Jemina, Sisina, Hongtsho and Talshogng.

Project Status: (On Going) The project has supplied typewriters (both Dzongkha and English) and greenboards to the five community schools in Thimphu district. The rest of the funds will be used to buy library books for which the order has already been placed.

End of Project Report: Expected by December 2005

C) BH 94:- Enhancement of Education Delivery System in Chhukha Dzongkhag.

A total of fifteen community schools and seven primary schools have been identified as the recipient organization of this project. The identified schools under the Dzongkhag will be provided with eight typewriters (four English, four Dzongkha), five duplicators, sixty two green boards and library books. The supply of these items will serve to provide basic facilities to those schools which do not have the facilities at all, and also replace the existing old facilities previously provided by the government.

Project Status: (On Going) The project  provided typewriters, duplicators, greenboards to 15 community schools and 7 primary schools  Chhukha district. The remaining funds will be used to supply library books to these schools.

D) BH 95:- Assistance to Schools in Sarpang Dzongkhag.

The project will provide assistance to seven community schools (Umling, Chhuazang, Sherzhong, Jigmecholing, Pelrithang, Jigmeling and Dekiling) and two primary schools (viz. Sarpang and Gelephu). This project will supply sixty one green boards, fourteen typewriters (seven each in English and Dzongkha). The schools will also be provided with seven duplicating machines.

Project Status: (On Going) The project supplied the nine schools in the Sarpang district with typewriters, duplicators and greenboards.

E) BH 96:- Enhancement of Education Delivery System in Trashiyangtse.

Located in the eastern Bhutan, Trashiyangtse is one of the remotest districts in the country. The district has a total of 20 schools, out of which 7 are primary, 10 community and rest secondary schools. These schools in the district do not have adequate office equipment, teaching materials and reference materials. The project will supply a total of 11 Typewriters (6 English and 5  Dzongkha), a Fax Machine, 17 Green boards, 11 Duplicators and Library books.

Project Status: (On Going) The project has already supplied typewriters, duplicators, and greenboards to schools in the Trashiyangtse district. The order for a fax machine and library books have been placed.

F) BH 97:- Assistance to Schools in Zhemgang Dzongkhag

Zhemgang is also one of the remotest districts that lie in the south-central part of the country. There are 22 schools in this district, and nearly 80% of these schools are located in remote part of the district spread over 8 Geogs. Through this project schools under Zhemgang district will receive 2 Fax Machines, 54 Green Boards and 4 Computers with printers.

Project Status: (On Going) The project has already supplied fifty-four greenboards to the identified  schools in the district. The remaining funds will be used to buy two fax machines and four computers with printers to these schools.
