A) BH 98:-A Pilot Project on Reading in Three Selected
Schools.
Objectives:
The main Objectives of the Project will be to:
- inculcate reading habit amongst students.
- enhance the competencies of teachers in promoting reading in Schools through a
focused in-house workshop and development of reading strategies.
- review the current list of books/reading materials supplied to schools.
- look at some of the best practices that can be replicated in other schools and supply of basic reading materials
in these three schools.
Project
Status: (On Going)
The project will focus on in-house
workshop on reading, writing of reports and recommendations
of the workshop. It will also supply reading materials/books
to the three identified schools, and broadcast some of the
best reading practices/strategies. The three identified
schools are Gelephu Middle Secondary School (Gelephu
District), Sherubling Middle Secondary School (Trongsa
district) and Changangkha Lower Secondary School (Thimphu
District).

B) BH 99:- Review and Reform of English Curriculum PP to XII.
objectives:
- Developing a revised English Curriculum Class PP to XII.
- Developing a strategy for the implementation of curricular improvements and best teaching practices.
- Producing and publishing curriculum and support materials for schools, which are
child-centered, and gender sensitive.
Project Details:
- Review and Revise the English Curriculum Class PP to XII
(Revise the learning objectives and the activities developed in the first phase of the workshop)( Development of teaching and learning materials)
- A total of 17 teachers from different high schools will be recruited to carry out the task of reviewing and revising the English curriculum for Class XI and XII, which will be for a period of 6
weeks.
Project Status: (Closed) The
project funded the six-week workshop on English Curriculum
Review and Reform for Class XI-XII. The project also purchased
a computer, printer, LCD-Infocus with screen and a photocopier.
The remaining funds have been transferred to the surplus fund.

C) BH 100:- Establishment of Youth-Cum- Resource Center in Mongar.
The Youth cum Resource Centre is centrally based and it is easily
accessible to more than 12 schools, viz. Lingmithang CPS, Gyelpozhing HSS, Kurichhu LSS, Ridaza CPS, Chali CPS, Konbar CPS, Kilikhar PS,
Bumpazor PS, Zunglen PS, Ngatshang CPS, Yadi LSS, and Mongar HSS.
A coordinator under the direction of a committee shall manage the Resource Centre.
Objectives:
- Support the professional development of teachers.
- Facilitate school based in-service programme (SBIP) and cluster based in-service programme (CBIP) for teachers.
- Provide opportunities for teachers from the clusters to come together and share their
experiences problems and to discuss alternatives ideas.
- Develop a pool of expertise within the cluster to facilitate in-service programme both at local and national level.
- Promote innovative ideas and action research in classrooms.
- Improve the management and leadership in the schools through peer discussion and sharing the resources and
experiences.
- Make resources accessible for teachers, which are otherwise difficult to reach the individual schools.
- Enhance the quality education through the provision of adequate facilities.
- Upgrade and update students English through the provision of reading materials.
- Promote reading habit in children
- Educate teachers and students in IT
- Cater to the continuity of learning for the Non- Formal learners.
Project Status: (Ongoing)
The Education Central Store in Phuentsholing
will supply an audio-tape recorder, cordless microphone set,
overhead projector, lamination machine, binding and paper
cutting machines, LCD projector. TV set, Scanner and DVD
player, books and stationery by the end of April 2005. The
order for a computer, printer and photocopier ahs been
given and they are expected to be delivered by July this
year.

D) BH 101:- Outdoor Equipment for all DEOs (District Education
Officer) and ADEOs (Assistant District Education Officer.
Objectives:
- Enhance and improve the frequency of school visits
- Develop and promote the new education programme in the Dzongkhag level
- Monitor and supervise the new curriculum changes
- Provide and support the NFE learning centers
- Improve and facilitate the general school programs
- Provide and support the wholesome education
- Extend the further improvement of overall education and special
education programs.
- Enable to improve games, sports, and cultural activities
- Enhance coordination and linkages amongst the parent ministry and
School/Dzongkhag level.
Project description:
The outdoor equipment is proposed to supply all DEOs/ADEOs under 19 Dzongkhags including Panbang DEO under Zhemgang Dzongkhag (Gasa Dzongkhag will be excluded as it is already covered under CCO Project 2002-203)and 4 store officers of Central and Regional Education stores who lack such facilities at present.
Project Status: (On Going) The project has supplied hiking and camping gear to all the District Education Officers (DEOs,) the Assistant DEOs and Ministry of Education Central Store
staff.

E) BH 102:- Enhancement of Vocational Education in Schools in Trashigang.
Objectives:
- Support wholesome education by providing technical & vocational orientation to the students.
- Develop & promote a sense of appreciation & dignity of Labour in school students.
- Promote skills in students to carry out repair & maintenance works in
schools.
- To enhance the vocational education in schools & simultaneously help making teaching learning materials.
- To prepare children for future living with vocational & farming skills.
- To sustain the school agriculture programme.
- To help earn the additional funds for schools' Oxfam budget.
- To apply the skills & knowledge gained in schools to their field works at home.
- To provide NFE learners with basic tailoring skills to sustain their life.
Project Description:
The project will benefit 12 primary schools, 17 community primary schools and 14 community primary schools, under Trashigang Dzongkhag.
Project Status: (On Going)
The project has supplied agricultural tools to the schools
in Trashigang and sewing machines to the Non- Formal
education centres in the districts.

F) BH 103:- Training on Repair and Maintenance of Office Equipment in Schools.
In most of the schools basic facilities like typewriters and duplicating machines play vital role in smooth functioning
of the schools and implementation of school activities, programmes.
As supply of these equipments are one time and frequent breakdowns hinder the preparation of learning materials, question papers, besides shortage of skilled
manpower to address such issues further complicate the problem and schools have to
incur heavy expenses in repairing these machines.
Instant availability of trained manpower would not only solve these problems but also make sustainable use of these resources.
Therefore the project seeks to provide a 15 days long training on the repair and maintenance of office equipments which would be held
at the district level where 40 participants are expected to attend this training.
The 15 CTC trained Multi-Skilled persons (employed in various schools), 9
vocational teachers and 9 peons from selected rural schools would be trained in various capacity in maintaining and repairing the office
equipments.
Project Status: (On
Going) A total of 42 participants from the identified
schools in all the districts were trained on the basic
servicing typewriters and duplicating machines for two weeks
in January 2005. They were mainly trained for tracing out
causes, remedies and action for efficient utility of the
machines. It is expected that they will maintain the
machines donated by the Canada Fund to the various schools
country-wide.

G) BH 104:-Provision of Effective Equipment & Extension Kits for Evaluation & Monitoring Support Services
Division (EMSSD).
Education Monitoring and Support Services Division being an integral part of
Department of School Education within the Ministry of Education has sole responsibility for the
provision of quality education to the students, besides monitoring the
implementation of educational programmes and
professional support services to the teachers.
In view of discharging its responsibilities the project seek to
provide a set of outdoor kits to facilitate in smooth conduct
of visits to remote schools in the country.
The project will provide a Laptop, a Portable printer, a
Digital camera, 3 numbers of memory card for the camera, 5
numbers 2 men tents,9 numbers Camp mat with cover, and 9 numbers of sleeping bag.
Project Status: (On Going)
The
project supplied camping equipment to the EMMSD. The
Procurement Office of the Education Ministry has ordered for
the laptop, portable printer, digital camera and memory cards
that are expected to be delivered soon.
